Venetian Highlights:
the Square, the Basilica of St Mark, Rialto, the off-the-beaten tracks, Murano island and the Venetian Lagoon
This tour features the highlights of Venice: all that you should not miss when
visiting Venice, even if you have little time to spend. We begin with a walk through the Square of
St Mark to outline its most celebrated monuments like the Bridge of Sighs, the
beautiful architecture of the Doge’s Palace and the Renaissance Marciana
Library.
We will then visit the golden Basilica of St. Mark to admire some of its
most precious treasuries: about 90,000 square feet of golden mosaics, the famous
4 bronze horses and the astonishing Golden Screen, decorated with 1,927 precious gems.
Leaving the Square, we will make
our way to the Rialto Bridge, walking through
some of the narrow alleys of Venice. We'll pass by the Opera House and get to the
hidden little court where the Contarini Spiral Staircase is found.
We'll reach then the famous Rialto Bridge, to admire the magnificent view over the Grand Canal and stroll around the stalls of picturesque market place (the market place is open only in the morning, Mondays thru Saturdays - the fishmarket is closed also Mondays).
From there we'll cross the Grand Canal on a gondola traghetto and reach the Sestiere of Cannaregio. You'll be rowed to the other side of the Grand Canal for only 50 cents per person: it'll be your cheapest (and quickest) gondola ride in Venice. From the gondola you will admire some of the exquisite princely residences of the old patrician families.
We will then continue walking through peaceful corners of the city, "far from the madding crowd", and eventually reach the Fondamenta Nuove overlooking the northern Lagoon, where we'll board a luxury boat and take a ride through the lagoon, to discover its natural features. At the end of the tour
you will reach the Island of Murano where you will have the possibility to
admire the worldwide celebrated glass masters at work (we’ll see one of the
few non-tourist glass factory!)
The play of light on the water surface will
add an incomparable charm to the last part of your tour that will end by St Mark’s Square.
